‘The Clarkson Effect’

How much effect does a TV show have on areas in terms of the local property market?

Having worked in Notting Hill pre the blockbuster film ‘Notting Hill’ in 1999 the area was still a no go for most bankers and wealthy managers especially the Americans. Interestingly all three producers of the film purchased large houses in prime W11 before the release. The effect on the area was both astonishing and instantaneous. The phone rang off the hook (pre-emails) with buyers wanting a big house backing on to communal gardens.

Whilst Clarkson’s Farm might not have such an influence there is definitely a buzz in the OX7 area with enquires not just from Londoners but people from all over the UK. The audience is both varied and international so it cannot be bad publicity. There has been a huge increase in tourism and tours and inevitably that will bring buyers.

With other shows being filmed here also, such as Jilly Cooper’s Rivals and the current Mobland. Rightmove reporting surges in village searches especially Chadlington and Chipping Norton – it seems that The Cotswolds has become a go to destination for filmmakers.

Talking of TV our very own Managing Director Emma will also be appearing on Channel 4’s Britain’s Most Expensive Houses airing from May 21st and Clarkson’s Farm Season 4 air’s this Friday 23rd May
